SportsShoes.com, the online retailer of running shoes, running apparel and outdoor gear, has invested £1.5 million (€1.7m) to semi-automate its warehouse.
The company says the new conveyors and packaging machines have improved product-picking capacity by 150 percent and increased products packed per hour by a factor of six. That total now sits at 480 to 600.
The warehouse is the company’s only one and dispatches parcels to Europe and the rest of the UK. It stands next to headquarters and the 10,750-square-foot “creative and tech hub” the company established in 2023. This complex is located in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The assortment consists of 17,000 products from 150 brands, such as Asics, Nike, Adidas, Hoka, New Balance, Brooks, Salomon, Montane, Rab and Patagonia.
Systems integration for the warehouse was handled by AMH Material Handling in partnership with Yorkshire Packaging Systems and Audion Packaging Machines.
Over the past three years, the company says, SportsShoes.com has invested more than £4.5 million (€5.1m) in “people, processes, technologies and facilities.” The year ended Feb. 28 saw record revenues of £93.3 million (€106m), up 4 percent year-on-year. EBITDA was up 13.3 percent, to £6 million (€7m), and the customer base increased by 672,465.
