The payment processor Afterpay is launching an online platform, called Dropshop by Afterpay, that offers interest-free installment payment plans for exclusive or early access to certain products. For instance, working in partnership with The Finish Line, the U.S. sporting goods retailer recently acquired by JD Sports Fashion, the platform will provide early access to a limited edition of the Nike Air Max 90 shoe – in black, orange and silver – for its customers in the U.S. A further partnership with Snapchat will enable customers to try products on virtually with an augmented reality (AR) lens. The Nike sneakers will be on sale – at $120 plus tax and shipping – through Afterpay and The Finish Line from April 27 to May 2. The Finish Line will be delivering the products through its Global Access platform, operated by JD Sports. Afterpay’s installment plans are free of charge for non-delinquent customers. The company claims to work with about 86,000 retailers, serving about 15 million customers in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the U.S. and in some European countries - the U.K., France, Italy and Spain - where it is known as Clearpay.
