After Google’s reported tests to turn YouTube into a shopping platform, Facebook has announced a new functionality on Instagram that will allow customers to buy products through a new “Shop” tab on its home screen. Represented by a shopping bag, it will lead directly to the Instagram Shop, a commercial space launched in the summer that makes personalized suggestions in accordance with the user’s preferences. The new functionality will be rolled out in the coming weeks. The new interface will also include a “Reels” tab to present videos from artists, creators and influencers.
