Padel’s inclusion at Istanbul 2027 extends a multi-sport push that spans three continental Games in a single year, as the sport’s governing body advances its case for an Olympic berth.

According to the International Padel Federation (FIP), padel will be a medal sport at the 2027 European Games, scheduled for June 16-27 next year in Turkey, having received the blessing of both the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the Organizing Committee of the European Games for Istanbul.

Already a medal sport at the European Games of 2023 (Kraków), padel will be figuring this year at the Mediterranean Games (Aug. 21 - Sept. 3, Taranto, Italy) and the Asian Games (Sept. 19 - Oct. 4, Aichi-Nagoya, Japan). The sport has long sought an Olympic berth.

Spyros Capralos, President of the EOC and Executive Board Member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), says that the organizations he represents are “pleased” to see the sport “continue its journey within the European Olympic Movement.” Its inclusion in the program for Turkey “reflects our commitment to innovation and to embracing sports that inspire new generations of athletes and fans.”
