Rubin Ritter plans to step down as Zalando’s joint chief executive, responsible for strategy and communication. He and the company’s supervisory board will be negotiating to dissolve his contract, which was to run until November 2023. Ritter says that he will be spending more time with his expanding family and allowing his wife to focus on her own career. He has been steering the ship since 2010 alongside Robert Gentz and David Schneider, who founded Zalando in 2008. The pair will be staying aboard as co-CEOs. Born in 1982 and formerly with McKinsey & Co., Ritter joined Zalando two years after its foundation, when the e-tailer diversified from footwear into apparel and started to move out of the German market. Ritter was also the company’s chief of finance until last year, when David Schroeder accepted the post. He exercised many of his stock options in the last months.
