Intersport Eybl will open its first store in Germany on Oct. 15. The store in Passau right at the Austrian border will simply be called Sport Eybl because this big Austrian retail company does not hold the Intersport license on German territory.

Eybl’s low-budget format, Sports Experts, is already present in the German market with one outlet in Regensburg. Sports Experts used to have three doors in the neighboring country, but eventually closed those in Bochum and Munich.

Also in Austria, Eybl is set for further expansion: At the same time as the Passau store, the chain is opening new Eybl Shops in Ried im Innkreis and in Wiener Neustadt, where it will then have two doors.

The chain has two different retailing formats. One is the Intersport Eybl Shop with some 2,000 square meters of selling surface. With the three new openings, Eybl Shop will count 15 doors of this type. On top of this, it runs 10 larger surfaces called Intersport Eybl Megastores. The price-oriented chain Sports Experts currently operates 22 stores, of which 21 are in Austria and one in Germany.
