FIFA has endorsed the formation of a Great Britain football team to play in the 2012 Olympics in London, much to the chagrin of the Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland Football Associations. They say that a Great Britain team would detract from their ability to play as separate countries in international competitions. The Scottish team has even launched a protest petition led by its former manager, Craig Brown. The football associations already mentioned, along with the Football Association of England, will now have to decide if there should be a new team, and are expected to let FIFA know by March.
