Fimbulvetr won the Ispo 2017/18 award in the eco achievement hardware category for its “Tankr” product of snow shoes, which are made in Norway by production partners within an hour's drive of the company's headquarters. The company started to sell its products to the Norwegian army and launched the products for the public in the 2014/15 season. Customers can fix the snow shoe themselves and replace individual components if they are broken. If customers give back their old snow shoes, they get a discount for a new pair, usually priced at the equivalent of between €270 and €300. Exports account for 90 percent of the company's production, with the U.S., Canada and Japan being the biggest markets. Online retailers, like Backcountry.com and Altitude Sports, as well as bricks-and-mortar stores like Alternative 113 and some REI stores sell the brand in the U.S. and Canada. It sold about 5,000 pairs of the snow shoes in 2016 and the volume is set to double.
