Intersport Austria maintained stable performance at a high level in fiscal year 2023/24 (Oct. 1, 2023 to Sept. 30, 2024). The Austrian part of the sporting goods retailer expects revenue of €653 million for the current fiscal year, compared to €654 million in the previous year.
Intersport saw 10 percent growth in both service and rental segments. Bike and team sports categories recorded good sales increases, while year-round sports like running, fitness, and outdoor remained at prior-year levels.
European Football Championship boosts Intersport sales
Intersport Austria saw double-digit growth in team sports sales, boosted by enthusiasm around the Austrian national team during the European Football Championship. The company became the official partner of the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) in March, taking over management of the ÖFB fan shop.
“Football is often the first entry into club and team sports for many kids,” Franz Koll, Intersport Austria’s Managing Director, noted. “The community feeling, first sporting successes, and regular training commitments undoubtedly strengthen character and have many other positive effects,” he concluded.
Bike segment shows strong growth
E-bikes continue to drive growth in the bicycle market. Intersport’s bike sales increased in the spring and summer of 2024 compared to the previous year. The company attributes this partly to financing options like the “Firmenradl” (company bike) corporate bike leasing program and interest-free financing.
“Customers want a top bike and are willing to spend more on it, thinking about financing in the longer term,” Koll explained. “Gravel bikes are also giving the bike sector a strong boost.”
As Intersport Austria celebrates its 60th anniversary, the company remains focused on offering a wide selection of high-quality sports equipment combined with expert advice and service. According to the retailer, this strategy has resulted in a high number of loyal customers and growth in both service and rental segments.
