The Finnish sporting goods market grew by 5.8 percent in 2007 to reach a level of €963.5 million after VAT, according to an annual survey by Sporttimyyja. Kesko remained the market leader with sales of €274.1 million through its own and affiliated Intersport and Kersport stores. They rose by 6.7 percent, beating the overall market, but other retailers grew faster.
Sporting goods sales grew by 10.1 percent to €79.3 million at Prisma. They went up by 14.4 percent to €62.0 million at Sportia and by 7.9 percent to €47.6 million at Top-Sport. Citymarket, a mass merchant belonging to Kesport, saw its sporting goods sales grow by 2.0 percent to €59.8 million. The Finnish stores of Stadium raised their sales by 32.0 percent to €32.6 million.
Among the vendors, Adidas took the lead with turnover of €32.4 million, up by 7.0 percent. It was followed by Oy Sultrade, distributor of Umbro, Speedo, and Craft and its Catmandoo brand, with sales of €26.9 million. Halti and L-Fashion came next with a turnover of €26.0 million and €24.8 million, respectively. Nike came fifth in the market with sales of €20.7 million, according to Sporttimyyja. It was followed by Reebok and by Normark. Amer Sports and Salomon were further down in the list, but together they had sales of €25.4 million, placing the group in the fourth spot.
