Foot Locker has opened its first Italian “power store” in Milan, at 17 Corso Buenos Aires, a central shopping area. While selling a variety of sneakers and brands, the power store concept is designed to serve as a hub for local sneaker culture, music, art and sports. Customers can get their New Era caps embroidered with their initials, and they can play with an X-Box. To celebrate Milanese streetwear culture, Foot Locker asked Vanni Vaps, a local artist, to create a series of ad hoc illustrations for the store. The new three-story power store in Milan is Foot Locker's third of the kind in Europe. The other two were opened in London and Liverpool last year, followed by one in Hong Kong. Another was opened in the Eastpointe district of Detroit, Michigan, earlier this year, followed by one in Philadelphia last month. About 20 openings around the world have been planned for this year, including a store in New York City in the autumn that will occupy 25,000 square meters at 605 West 181st Street. Some 50 more should be added in 2020.
