For an undisclosed amount, Shock Doctor, the U.S. specialty brand of mouthguards and other protective equipment for team sports and fitness activities, has acquired Cutters, a marketer of sports gloves for football and other sports based in Phoenix, Arizona. The new combination sees big growth potential for Cutters since the glove brand is currently sold only in North America and 15 other markets. In comparison, Shock Doctor is sold through 9,000 points of sale in 50 countries. The two brands currently have international distribution that is complementary in many ways, according to a company official. Shock Doctor and Cutters both have significant brand presence and equity in Europe, South America, Asia and Australia. On top of that, Shock Doctor also has distribution in Africa and the Middle East. As of now, the official says, no big changes are expected in the near future in the respective businesses.
