Fruit of the Loom will cease production at its Irish production plant in Buncrana in County Donegal by May 26. A total of 170 employees will be let go, 70 of whom will leave at the end of March. Another 90 workers will be kept on board until December to help with the plant’s relocation, while 12 others will remain until January. Another 12 have already left the company voluntarily. As first announced in 2004, Fruit of the Loom is moving its production to Morocco. The staff of company, which at one point had as many as 3,000 employees in Ireland, has been slimmed down to roughly 500.
