Gary van Rooyen is leaving as managing director of New Balance South Africa to purchase and run Coreban, a Hawaiian brand of stand-up paddling boards, together with some associates. Following his departure, Craig Bowen, national sales manager, will become country manager for South Africa. He will report to Ricky Knight, who has been managing the brand's business in Australia and New Zealand, and who is being promoted to general manager of New Balance Pacific, responsible also for South Africa. Van Rooyen, a former windsurfing champion, has spent 13 years with New Balance, but was recently involved in the growing SUP sector, organizing local events and promoting the sport in South Africa. He started off in the sporting goods industry by running three surf shops and working for Saucony and Nike.
