Gene Yoon, current chairman and chief executive of Fila Sport, and many other former executives of the Italian company including Jon Epstein were among the 350 people who attended a ceremony in Biella for the presentation of a book on the history of the company written by Enrico Frachey, who led Fila for many years until 1999 and died one year ago. Centered on the concept of "innovazione discontinua" (discontinuous innovation), the book was completed after his death by Marco Negri, who acted as vice president in charge of footwear until 2001. Published by Edizioni Angelo Guerini & Associati, the book shows how a small stagnating knitwear company could suddenly turn around and grow very fast in the span of 10 years by plotting an entirely new course, competing against the majors in another industry such as Nike and Reebok. The book is available for the moment only in Italian. A translation into English is planned at a later stage.
