Intersport Deutschland has announced a significant increase in its members’ selling surface during Autumn 2008. The buying group reports 20,000 new square meters, of which 4,000 are existing surfaces that have been revamped. Kim Roether, the group’s president, estimates the entire volume of the members’ investments at roughly €25 million.

From September through November, 20 points of sale have been renovated, enlarged or newly created. This figure includes one Intersport Adventure store, the group’s outdoor specialty retail format, as well as three new stores of Voswinkel, the chain that is wholly owned by the company.

In Germany, Intersport now counts more than 1,200 shops in downtown locations, 100-plus points of sale in shopping malls, and around 70 so-called “Profimärkte,” Intersport’s local suburban superstore format. The Heilbronn-based headquarters expect an increase in annual sales of €30 million. As of the end of September, Intersport members have already reached an increase in turnover of 7 percent on a year-to-date basis.
