German sporting goods suppliers and retailers are gearing up for the introduction of amended regulations on packaging that will come into effect at the beginning of next year. The BSI, the trade organization for German suppliers, has sealed a central agreement that will enable its members to efficiently obtain licenses for their packaging, as required by the new regulations. Failure to comply could entail a fine of €50,000 for the suppliers. Furthermore, the VDS, the association of German sports retailers, has informed its members that they should request from their suppliers a confirmation that they have their packaging licenses in order. By selling products with unlicensed packaging, retailers place themselves at risk of a €50,000 fine as well.
