Crocs and Disney have paired up so that Crocs can make shoes based on the television hits "Hannah Montana" and "High School Musical." Crocs and its subsidiary Jibbitz, which makes charms for the shoes, will also theme a line of shoes around the Disney/Pixar film "Wall-E."
The shoes will not be made in Quebec City, however, at the plant that Crocs recently announced would be closing this summer. On April 17 and 18, workers leaving the night shift and arriving for the day shift were told to collect their personal belongings and go home. No reason was given for the early closure, which was expected in June. Another 27 employees were laid off at Crocs’ Colorado headquarters on April 30.
Across the ocean, Crocs has been asked by Japan to improve its product. The country’s trade ministry says that many wearers, mostly children, have been hurt while wearing Crocs' plastic shoes on escalators when the toes of the shoes are caught between the steps and the sides. Crocs said it had already started improving its materials, but added that most escalator accidents were the result of carelessness.
