Hans Gijzel, who supervised part of the international retail operations at Sports Direct International (SDI) for several years, is said to have left the British sports retailer and wholesaler in June. Based in Belgium, Gijzel spearheaded SDI's rapid expansion into that country, where it has become one of the market leaders with 45 stores. The Belgian office and warehouse also served as a base for some of SDI's operations in other European countries. For the time being it appears that Gijzel will not be replaced in his international function and that SDI is striving to centralize more of the logistics and supervision for its international operations at its head office and mega-warehouse in Shirebrook.
