Head International has started construction of its new ski plant in the Vinnitsia Oblast of Ukraine, the regional administration said in a statement on its website on Sept. 13. The new plant is slated to begin operation in 2021. Head said last year that it had chosen Ukraine over other locations because it offered the most attractive conditions for the production of sporting goods, even better than China's. In 2018, Ukraine's ski exports to the European Union amounted to $49.1 million, up by 17.3 percent from the previous year. In terms of volume, 730,000 pairs of skis were exported to the EU and three million pairs to other countries, including nearly 1.45 million pairs to the U.S. Fischer Mukachevo is believed to be currently the biggest manufacturer and exporter of skis from Ukraine.
