Head is introducing a new material in its latest generation of tennis racquets, the YouTrek line. The material is called graphene and was used in the racquet that helped Novak Djokovic to win the Australian Open this year. Graphene is described as extremely light, superthin and 200 times more tearproof than steel. Used in a tennis racquet, the material provides the same stability with significantly less weight. What is more, the material optimizes the distribution of weight all over the racquet, while the weight is concentrated in the center of conventional racquets. As a result, the player needs less power to accelerate the ball faster. According to Head, graphene was discovered in 2004 by two scientists who were awarded with the Nobel Prize. The European Union is heavily supporting research on graphene for the next ten years.
