Helge Mankowski, a former professional football player and up-to-date managing director at Intersport Voswinkel, has left the executive board of the sports retail chain, which filed for insolvency protection proceedings under its own administration on April 24 and is currently up for sale. In January 2017, Intersport Germany appointed Mankowski as managing director for Sport Voswinkel, a chain of 74 stores throughout Germany that has been a member of Intersport Germany since 1989 and a subsidiary of the voluntary group since 2003. He was working together with Anna-Lena Schulte-Angles and Marcus Neul, who remain members of Voswinkel's executive board. Potential buyers of Sport Voswinkel, which may be investors, retail members of Intersport or other retail companies, are invited to place their offers until July 17. Mankowski will be moving back to Intersport Germany's headquarters in Heilbronn, where he will be responsible for quality control and partnerships with affiliated retailers. In the board division of Intersport Germany, he will work closely with Frank Geisler and Mathias Boenke. Mankowski will be responsible for strengthening the Intersport brand and defining and developing its so-called “Best in Sports” strategy. Mankowski also remains a consultant for the restructuring of Sport Voswinkel. Mankowski joined Intersport in 2000. Since 2009 and until he joined Voswinkel, he was in charge of key accounts for the larger retail members of Intersport. Previously, he was a regional manager in charge of services to retail members. As managing director of the Sportpoint group for two years up to 2015, Mankowski also played an important part in the group's integration into the buying organization.
