The Hohenstein Institute and its partners have come up with a standard for measuring the compression exerted by textiles, notably in sportswear. The family-owned testing, certification and research company has proposed DIN SPEC 4868, a test method to be used in conjunction with HOSYcan, a compression tester. According to Florian Girmond, who led its development at Hohenstein, the system provides “objective and precise data” for both product development and quality assurance. HOSYcan can also be adjusted to cover textiles outside the scope of DIN SPEC 4868, such as compression cuffs, socks and shapewear. Headquartered in Bönnigheim, Germany, Hohenstein employs more than 1,000 people.
