The Danish sportswear brand Hummel has announced that its climate targets have been validated by the Science Based Initiative (SBTi), which has verified Hummel’s targets to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 60 percent by 2031 from a 2021 base year. Additionally, Hummel has committed to reducing scope 3 GHG emissions from purchased goods and services by 55 percent per purchased item within the same timeframe. Hummel has further committed to 33 percent of its suppliers having science-based targets by 2026.

“We’re proud to have our climate targets validated by SBTi. […] The approval is an important step on our sustainability journey and underlines our commitment to creating a better future for ourselves, our customers, and our planet,” said Hummel CEO Allan Vad Nielsen.

Hummel’s efforts so far include: Increasing the share of organic and recycled materials used, engaging with suppliers on reducing their CO2 emissions, investing in new technology, and nominating freight forwarders who are actively working to reduce their CO2 emissions linked to transportation.
