The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that men’s and women’s teams will receive equal prize money at ICC events. The historic decision was taken at the ICC Annual Conference in Durban, South Africa, ”well ahead” of the 2030 scheduled deadline that had previously been set for that objective. Teams will now receive the same prize money for the equivalent finishing position at comparable events and the same amount for winning a match at those events. The organization has been increasing prize money at women’s events every year since 2017, with a focus on eventually reaching equal prize money. From now on, winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will carry the same prize money as winning the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The same will apply to T20 World Cups and Under-19 World Cups. Australia, the winners of the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup in February, received US$ 1 million in prize money. For the equivalent men’s title in November 2022, the England team won US1.6 million in prize money.
