IFM Sports Marketing Surveys has found that despite the global economic turmoil of the last couple of years, sponsorships have maintained. The number of new agreement rose by 15 percent in 2009 compared with 2008, while the number of withdrawals stayed about flat at 8 percent. Sports sponsorships make up 88 percent of the total. Though the number of deals worth more than $10 million decreased, confidence remained up, helped by the Barclays Premier League and the bid by Sochi, Russia, to host the 2014 Olympic Games.
