In the 2012 financial year, SportXX, the Swiss sporting goods retail chain under the helm of the Migros cooperative, managed to increase its sales by 2.9 percent to 257 million Swiss francs (€211.2m-$276.3m) before VAT. Given an average deflation of retail prices for the chain of 1.0 percent, the actual increase was 3.9 percent. This happened with a nearly stable number of doors across the country. While the number of general sporting goods stores operating under the SportXX banner shrank from 50 one year ago to 46, Ryffel Running, SportXX's newer specialty chain for running gear, expanded from four to ten shops. The group's smaller chain of outdoor stores, called Outdoor by SportXX, remained stable with six shops. The parent company of these chains, Migros, improved its sales slightly from CHF24,859 million to CHF24,999 million (€20.6bn-$26.9bn). Earnings before interest, taxes and depreciation (Ebitda) increased from CHF2,116 million to CHF2,177 million (€1.8bn-$2.3bn).
