Umbro had a contract with the Manchester City football club until 2019, but as it owns the brand, Nike is taking over from it as the sponsor of the British team for the next six seasons, reportedly for £12 million (€14.8m-$19.4m) per year. At the same time, it is negotiating the conditions for the renewal of its contract with Manchester United, which expires in 2015. The asking price is reportedly £60 (€74.0m-$96.9m) million a year for a duration of 10 years.
In Spain, Adidas is said to have agreed to extend its 14-year-old contract with Real Madrid through 2020 for an annual fee of €35 million, higher than the €30 million fee being paid by Nike for the Barcelona team. The Sevilla FC team may reportedly go for Umbro or Warrior Sports, the team sports subsidiary of New Balance, after breaking up its deal with Li Ning. Warrior made history recently as the new sponsor of the Liverpool team in a deal reportedly worth £25 million (€30.8m-$40.4m) annually.
Meanwhile, a lesser known yet fast-growing Italian brand of teamwear, Macron, has become the new technical sponsor of the Lazio football club in Rome, taking the place of Puma after 14 years. The partnership will last for five years until the end of the 2016-17 playing season. The new official jersey of the Roman team, which will be presented next summer, will bear a special catch phrase on its custom label tag. In addition to the match uniform, the Italian company will develop a special leisurewear collection for the fans of the team that will become available next August.
