Intersport Austria has appointed Mathias Boenke to the position of chief executive. From April, he will be responsible for Intersport's business activities in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Boenke has previously worked as chief executive at Huber Holding, the Austrian company that owns the brands Huber Bodywear, Skiny and Hanro. He left Huber Holding at the end of last March due to diverging opinions on the future strategy of the company. Before joining Huber, Boenke worked as chief executive for New Balance, where he was responsible for the German speaking countries. Intersport Austria's former CEO, Gabriele Fenninger, will leave the company during this summer. Together with Alois Grüblinger, she was joint CEO of Intersport Austria until the Austrian and German shareholders of Intersport merged their respective cooperatives into a single organization. Afterwards, she became CEO of Intercontact Austria, a new company formed for this purpose by a subsidiary of Intersport Germany, Intercontact Beteiligungs GmbH. All shareholders of Intersport Austria accepted the full takeover of the Austrian operation by the German one. Technically, Intercontact Österreich GmbH acquired 100 percent of the shares of Intersport Österreich e.Gen., the cooperative of Austrian retailers that has been operating as Intersport Austria.
