Intersport Austria has just opened the largest sporting goods store in the Czech Republic, consolidating its strong position in the country. Run directly by the buying group, the store is located in Prague and has a surface of 3,700 square meters. Czech and Austrian franchisees own 23 other Intersport stores in the Czech Republic. On top of this, Intersport Austria recently acquired 75 percent of the shares of its major Czech retail member, Drapa Sport, which operates 17 of these stores in the country.
The Austrian buying group is also quite active in Hungary where it acts as master franchisee as well. After starting up with three franchised stores last Fall, Intersport Austria has now opened its own flagship store in Budaörs, right outside Budapest
Out of the €643 million in retail sales generated by Intersport Austria and its members and franchisees last year, more than €43 million came from the group’s foreign operations in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
