Intersport France has signed a three-year deal to become the official distributor for the French Tennis Federation (FFT). The Swiss retailer will be providing exclusive offers to the federation's members as well as licensed apparel. Bernard Giudicelli, chairman of the FFT, hopes to boost membership to 1.5 million by 2020. His plan is to promote digital access to tennis clubs and courts, seek partnerships and draw more children to the sport by “reconnecting” it with elementary school. The FFT recently signed an agreement titled “De la cour aux courts” (“From the playground to the courts”) with the French Ministry of Education and Youth, the French Ministry of Sports, the National Union of School Sports and the Sports Union for Elementary Education. The agreement seeks to devise a tennis-like playground game that would be easy for children to take up.
