Intersport Espana has finalized the sale of its company-owned stores to one of its members, Intersport Mestre. On the other hand, it has decided to put on hold the development of its fashion sport concept, called Unisport, until it can guarantee a better sell-out of the brands and the products that it has selected for this new experiment.
The first Unisport store was opened in Barcelona in March 2007, followed by another unit in the 3 de Mayo shopping center of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. The attractive store design will be maintained. Five new store openings were planned, but they are not being implemented for the moment.
On the other hand, Intersport Espana has hired a new marketing manager, Claire Autran, who comes from VF Corp.’s jeanswear operations in Spain. She replaces Estese Ravés who has left the Spanish buying group.
Intersport Espana reports revenues of €98 million before VAT for the past year. It ended 2007 with 118 retail members and 349 affiliated stores, whose sales after VAT amounted to €324 million. This compares with 338 stores at the end of 2006 and sales of €309 million in the course of that year.
