Intersport Sweden, the leading buying group for sports retailers in the country, has put off far-reaching plans to take over all of its members, according to Sportfack. Intersport Sweden intended to acquire a 91 percent stake in each of the nearly 90 retail companies running 153 Intersport stores in the country in exchange for a mixture of cash and shares in Intersport Sweden. The change in ownership was meant to be completed at the start of this year and a few weeks ago its implementation was well advanced. However, the festive season has been weak and Intersport Sweden's managers felt that the financial risk was too high for all involved to go ahead with the transactions right away. In the meantime, Intersport Sweden will go ahead with other plans to further centralize its operations, in the face of growing competition in Swedish sports retailing.
