It's now official: After an overwhelming response from the industry to its proposals, Messe München has decided to organize an “Ispo Matchmaking & Information Trip” to Brazil for sporting goods companies that wish to enter this important and promising market or to improve their position there. The program will run from Nov. 20 to Nov. 23, coinciding with the Sports Business Conference organized in São Paulo each year.
The first trade mission will involve between 10 and 15 selected companies. The initiative capitalizes on the success of a similar matchmaking program with Chinese distributors that Messe München has been organizing in the framework of Ispo Beijing. It follows the Forum Brasil conference staged during the last Ispo Munich show. Nobody can say at this stage whether this initiative will be followed by a full-fledged trade fair for the Brazilian and Latin American market anytime soon.
Ispo's matchmaking trip to Brazil coincides with the release by SGI Europe of the first comprehensive report on the Brazilian sporting goods market. Sponsored by Ispo and by the Adventure Sports Fair in São Paulo, the report has nearly 180 pages of facts and figures on the Brazilian market. It is partly based on interviews with more than 100 key players and on an exclusive consumer survey.
As the host of the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, Brazil is attracting a lot of attention at the moment, but the market is highly protected and complex. These two initiatives are intended to provide the extra market knowledge and the connections to overcome these and other hurdles.
