Jørgen Andsbjerg, a retail expert who has run DIAS Danmark, has been elected as the new chairman of Sport Danmark, the buying organization for the Sport-Master stores in Denmark. Replacing Eric Schou, he has the task of restoring the company to profitability after a year in which it suffered an operating loss of 3.5 million Danish kroner (€0.5m-$0.6m), compared with a profit of 4.8 million DKK (€0.6m-$0.9m) in 2007. The gross profit declined while personnel expenses increased. Inventories went up dramatically, due to logistic problems and the launch of the new private brand, Master. Debt has gone up, too.
