JJB Sports has just signed an exclusive 10-year licensing deal with the Glasgow Rangers worth £48 million (€70m-$83m) which will see the UK retailer source, design, develop and retail all the club’s kits and official merchandise in its 439 store across the country. JJB has similar agreements in place with Everton and Wigan Athletic, the club owned by JJB’s chairman, Dave Whelan. JJB will pay an initial fee of £18 million (€26m-$31m) for the rights to the deal with a guaranteed minimum annual royalty of £3 million (€4.4m-$5.2m) in each year of the license, though additional payments could also be made should certain turnover targets be achieved. JJB has also signed a separate agreement with Umbro which will allow the company’s branding to be used on all the official merchandise carried by the members of the Rangers club.
