Richard A. Johnson, president and chief executive of Foot Locker, has been appointed to the additional position of board chairman, effective May 18. Nicholas DiPaolo, who has served as chairman for the past year, following the retirement of Kenneth Hicks, will remain on the board of directors until his term ends in May 2017. Like Johnson, Hicks had previously combined the functions of chairman and CEO.
Dick Johnson, a European director of the company in 2007-10, has been the U.S. sports retailer's president and chief executive since December 2014. The board of directors has also elected Dona D. Young, director of Foot Locker since 2001, as lead director. She had spent almost 30 years at The Phoenix Companies before retiring in 2009 as its chairman, president and chief executive.
Separately, Scott Martin, a former executive of Starbucks Coffee, Home Depot, Sears Holding and – most recently – Gap, will join Foot Locker on June 13 in the position of senior vice president of real estate. He will take the place of Jeffrey Berk, who retired after almost 20 years with Foot Locker.
