Joop Visser, a manager with a track record of three decades in the Dutch and Belgian sports business, has been appointed as sales manager of Umbro in the Benelux countries from the beginning of this month. The brand was formerly licensed to Team Sport for Benelux, Germany and Austria, but this agreement was acrimoniously terminated last year and there hasn’t been much activity around the brand in Benelux since. For the time being the new Umbro Benelux office is manned only by Visser, who is taking orders for the next Spring season and will build up a sales team for next year. The company then intends to open offices and showrooms in Brussels and at the Sports Business Center in Leusden. Visser has spent the last year as sales and marketing manager at Joko Sports, the distributor of the Patrick football brand in the Benelux countries. Before that he spent 16 years at Eurolight, one of the leading sports distribution companies in those countries, specializing in winter and racquet sports. His assignment at Umbro is to expand and upgrade the brand’s business in the region. Among many other things, Umbro will study new sponsorships with Dutch football teams, since its partnerships with the Heerenveen and Groningen football clubs came to an end and it no longer has any endorsees at this level.
