Just as we were printing this issue, Nike announced the departure of William B.Perez after only 13 months in the position of president and chief executive of the company. Perez will be replaced by Mark Parker, who has been running the Nike brand along with Charlie Denson. In contrast with Perez, Parker has a 27-year history with Nike. In a statement earlier today, Prez said he was not “entirely aligned” with the group’s chairman, Phil Knight, on “how to best lead the company’s long-term growth.” We hope to be more explicit soon about the future strategy of Nike, particularly if the acquisition of Reebok by Adidas is confirmed as scheduled in the next couple of days.
