Jörg Seifert has joined GMS, the German buying group for shoe retailers formed nine years ago, to develop SportXtreme, the new concept launched by the group last May for the sporting goods sector. It has already been adopted by 42 retailers in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands. SportXtreme concentrates on retail specialists in six segments: outdoor, team sports, running, golf, water sports and winter sports. The concept offers centralized settlements, business consulting, financial support and proposes a strategy for sales and marketing. Seifert has worked for 15 years in the sporting goods and shoe retail industries. He gained experience in the areas of marketing and merchandising at Fila, Esprit Sports, Karstadt Sports and Mäser. Lately, he was chief executive officer for Footprints, one of the brands of the Birkenstock group. At SportXtreme, he will be responsible for the development of the concept, to strengthen the cooperation with suppliers and to advise retail members.
