Karstadt Sports is ending its cooperation with Intersport, which was only established in January 2018. This step is a consequence of the merger of Karstadt and Kaufhof and a plan to convert some stores of the less successful outlet chain Saks Off 5th into additional sports stores. With the larger number of sports departments as well as the existing and planned new sports stores, the company will have a significantly greater purchasing competence of its own in the future. This move will probably also resolve the reservations of the German Federal Cartel Office regarding the company's sports sector due to the cooperation with Intersport.
