Keen has come up with a series of promotional events, related to the protection of the environment, that will culminate with a festival near its head office in Portland, Oregon in June 2008. The campaign is being steered by Bobbie Parisi, the former Dr. Martens official who is now Keen’s vice president of marketing. The new program will start off with three contests, conducted over the internet, to draw in the creative talents of designers, artists, photographers, journalists, outdoor enthusiasts, environmental researchers and activists. The company will accept submissions up until Dec. 31, and has appointed a panel of 13 judges that includes Yves Behar, the California-based designer, and Alison Gannett, world ski champion. Keen has signed up fifty colleges and universities to host its events and screen a documentary. Each school will receive $1,000 from Keen to be spent on an environmental cause selected by its students. In Europe, Keen is supporting the environment as a member of the Association for Conservation of the European Outdoor Group (EOG).
