FIFA president Gianni Infantino has confirmed the introduction of a new quadrennial men’s Club World Cup that will kick off in 2025. The tournament will feature 32 top teams from across the globe, up from the original 24-team scheme that was planned for 2021, canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The first edition is scheduled for the summer of 2025. The venue will be chosen “over the next few weeks or months in consultation with all of the stakeholders,” said Infantino. Fundamentally, the project is widely criticized, implementation seems unlikely at the moment despite the decision, or at least later than scheduled.
