NBA commissioner Adam Silver and French president Emmanuel Macron have unveiled a plan to collaborate on various initiatives meant to elevate basketball in France and Africa at all levels. Silver, Macron as well as NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum, NBA head of basketball operations Joe Dumars and French Basketball Federation (FFBB) president Jean-Pierre Siutat met on Jan. 18 in Paris ahead of The NBA Paris Game 2023 Presented by Nike, which featured Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons playing the NBA’s second regular-season game in Paris on Jan. 19. The French government and the NBA are forming a working group of senior-level executives which will develop these plans further, in coordination with the FFBB. Their work will culminate with a formal partnership that is set to be announced in conjunction with the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, which will indeed include basketball as a featured sport. The specifics of the collaborative initiative are detailed on the NBA’s website.
