Russia is considering the possibility of organizing the 2036 Olympic Games in St. Petersburg or another Russian city. Several other cities have already submitted their bids, said the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, at a meeting with Olympic champions and medalists in the Sambek village, in Russia’s southern Rostov Region, on Aug. 13. Saint Petersburg appears to be the frontrunner, with Kazan being considered as another leading candidate as well, said Lavrov. Paris will host the Summer Games in 2024, while Los Angeles will host the Games in 2028. Australia’s Brisbane was selected to host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games at the 138th IOC (International Olympic Committee) Session in Tokyo last month. Russia previously hosted the Summer Olympics in Moscow 1980, then the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
