Li-Ning has announced the signing of a multi-year sponsorship deal with the NBA star Dwyane Wade, for an undisclosed amount. The deal between China's leading sportswear company and the Miami Heat guard, who was two times NBA champion, calls for a signature line of adult athletic footwear and apparel, called “Way of Wade,” that will soon be available at Li-Ning retail stores and online, first in China and then in 2013 in the U.S.. Wade had previously signed with up Converse, which was later bought by Nike, and he was recently with Jordan, also owned by Nike. Wade's contract with Jordan ended only a few weeks ago. The move is part of Li-Ning's international effort to break through in the basketball business. Wade's first shoe will target the growing Chinese middle class, as the shoe will sell for about $130. In the U.S., the $120 price will suggest a lower-premium product. The agreement was brokered by CAA Sports, a division of Creative Artists Agency (CAA), on behalf of Wade.
