In 2006, Lowa, the Bavarian outdoor footwear specialist owned by Tecnica Group, managed to increase its turnover by around €10 million to €108 million. The figures include the sales in Germany of other brands owned by Tecnica - especially Nordica, Think Pink, Rollerblade, Dolomite and T-Shoes – which are handled by Lowa along with a couple of other brands of functional underwear and socks - X-Bionic and X-Socks.

Global deliveries of Lowa shoes rose last year to 1.81 million pairs, after two consecutive years at 1.7 million pairs. Germany accounted for 45 percent of the volume, the rest of Europe for 49 percent, North America for 4 percent and Asia for 2 percent.

Like its local competitors Meindl and Hanwag, Lowa continues to manufacture a good deal of its footwear in Germany. In 2006, 320,000 pairs were produced at the company’s factory in Jetzendorf, but the biggest part is made in Eastern Europe.

In the meantime Lowa continues to develop its own retail network in Germany. Four years ago it broke new ground by setting up a store together with Schöffel in Frankfurt. A second one was then opened by an Intersport member in Düsseldorf. Most recently, a third Schöffel-Lowa store started up in Leipzig.
