Luhta Sportswear Company obtained strong exposure as an international sponsor of the Nordic Ski World Championships, which were held in Lahti from February 22 until March 5. The company provided outfits under two of its brands, Icepeak and Luhta, for about 2,700 volunteers in the event's organization. The decision was taken quite late, in June, as another Finnish company, One Way, was unable to fulfill the requirements because of its previously reported financial problems. Luhta says it has yet to receive figures on media coverage but the feedback on the spot was outstanding. The championships were held in Lahti for the seventh time, in the same year as the centenary of Finland's independence. Luhta was created ten years earlier and celebrated its own anniversary in a tent in front of the main entrance to the championships, where it offered food and drinks to all spectators who dropped in. Sauli Niinistö, Finland's president, even made the trip to the Finnish group's head office in Lahti during the event.
