Mammut says it has introduced the world's first laser-fused jacket, which has won an Ispo Award. The Photics HS Thermo Hooded Jacket is waterproof and breathable, made of quilted, 750 cuin goose down, and limited to 500 pieces sold B2C. The jacket is welded with the world's only laser-fuse device, located at Mammut's headquarters in Seon, Switzerland. With this technique, the materials are joined without adhesive. A laser penetrates the outer, laser-transparent textile layer and hits an absorbing layer that converts the light into heat. The joining spots melt and are then pressed together. As a result, the outer and inner layers fuse without visible seams. Insulation chambers can thereby be welded together, allowing for different filling options. Moreover, because there are no pinholes, there is no loss of down.
