One of Taiwan’s major bicycle frame builders, Astro Tech, has started building a new production facility north of Ho Chi Minh City.
Having operated in Vietnam for 24 years, Astro Tech plans to commence mass production at a new factory in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Astro Tech is part of the Darfon Group, which is owned by the technology company BenQ.
In response to the rapid global market shifts, Samuel Hu, president of Astro Tech, told Jo Beckendorff of Bike Europe in a recent interview that the company must accelerate its international production expansion. This decision was communicated in a five-point plan Astro Tech presented earlier this year.

The new 68,000-square-meter factory is dedicated to producing aluminum bicycle frames and has an estimated annual capacity of 800,000 units. The total investment for the project amounts to $30 million (€26.3m).
Astro Tech has allocated two-thirds of the total investment to construct an ESG-compliant factory. This is intended to meet “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” (LEED) standards for green building. According to Astro Tech, the goal is to strike a balance between energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
